Annunciation
Christian celebration of the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to Jesus, the son of God.
Ararat Jacob’s ladder
A bridge between the earth and heaven that the biblical patriarch Jacob dreams about during his flight from his brother Esau.
Armageddon
The site of gathering of armies for a battle during the end of times or refers to any end of the world scenario.
Babel
A story meant to explain the origin of different languages.
Babylon
A significant city in ancient Mesopotamia that has become synonymous with sin and pride in western art and literature.
Burning bush
A bush that was on fire, but not consumed by its flames which represents Moses’ fear of God.
Bathsheba
Known for committing adultery with king David.
Damascus
Prophet Isaiah gives gods commentary of conflict between Damascus and Israel,turning Damascus into a heap of ruins.
Esther
Jewish exile who lived in persia and brought peace and thanksgiving to the people as the queen.
Golden calf
An idol made by the Israelites during Moses’ absence.
Promised land
The land promised by God within the river of Egypt and the Euphrates river.
Jeremiah
A prophet that spiritualized and individualized religion and insisted upon the primacy of the individuals relationship with God.
Job
A good and prosperous family man who is beset with horrendous disasters that take away things that he holds dearest to him, and in return receives double the wealth and more children from God.
Leviathan
A sea monster in the tanakh that is seen as an enemy of light.
Lot’s wife
Book of genesis describes how she became a pillar of salt after she looked back at sodom.
