A

Blind man obeyed, washed at Pool of Siloam, and then received sight immediately
Sight, then salvation – man must recognize & admit his lost condition, understand Word & need of Savior, respond w/ belief
Progressive spiritual sight – healed blind man referred to Jesus as “man,” “prophet,” “of God,” and “Lord”
Religious leaders mocked, cast the healed blind man out of the synagogue because he believed in Christ
Salvation – immediate and natural response in believing Jesus is Christ is to worship Him. Blind man worships the Lord

Q

Unit 5
How does God use people to honor Him?
(think seed and sewing)

A

In Perea (10:40-42)
In early ministry, John the Baptist ministered in the Jordan area. He prepared the soil and planted seed. Years later, Jesus reaped.
● God uses people in different ways for His work. Some prepare the soil (hearts), others plant the seed (gospel), others water
that seed and cultivate the soil, then someone else may reap the fruit seeing the results.
● Our responsibility is not to produce results – it is God who gives the increase. Be faithful to sow/reap. Depending on God.

Unit 5
What was happening in Bethany?

A

In Bethany (11:1-46)
● Lazarus was sick, yet; Jesus stayed away two more days. Ways of God are not always our ways. God’s ways are perfect
Then Jesus went to Bethany even as the disciples said, “…the Jews there tried to stone you, and yet you are going back.”

17

● Lack of faith – Thomas: “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”

18
Q

A

Wisdom of Martha – believed in Christ’s power to raise brother Lazarus from the dead, not sure when
Wishes of Mary – “if only” Christian always living in the past
Weeping of Jesus – TEARS for unbelief of the people; and ANGER(groaning) at enemy death
Words of Jesus – brought Lazarus out of the tomb. Lazarus, come out.
Will of people – some believe; others do not believe and go tell Pharisees

22
Q

Unit 5
What were Jesus’s Seven steps/royal entry?

A

Jesus’ royal entry: 7 steps
o Walked from Bethany (Jesus kept the Passover at Mary and Martha’s home in Bethany) to Bethphage
o Sent 2 disciples to Bethphage where they got the donkey for Jesus to ride
o Received the donkey (Symbol of humility, dependence on God, kingship, fulfillment of prophecy)
o Rode from Mount of Olives into Jerusalem
o People in Jerusalem hailed Jesus as their King
o Overcome with emotion and Jesus wept
o Viewed temple and left

23
Q

Unit 5
What is the world’s fickleness, and God’s sovereignty?

A

World’s Fickleness and God’s Sovereignty
o God’s sovereignty is seen in that twice people (after feeding 5000 & triumphal entry) want Jesus to be their king;
but, God overrules. Rather than a political and economic king, He is to be their spiritual king, accomplished through

death on the cross and resurrection. His death paid the price for our sins and His resurrection gives us His
righteousness with new life. Man’s faith and God’s grace..
o Man’s fickle mindedness is revealed in Jesus’ last week before His death. The crowds shout Hosanna to their King
during the triumphal entry and in less than a week later shout that Jesus be crucified.
