Bias Vocabulary Flashcards
Response Bias
the pattern of accurate results due to wording, lying, or the interviewer
Nonresponse
when an individual is selected to be in the sample, but chooses not to participate
Undercoverage
when some members of the population can’t or are less likely to be chosen for the sample
Observational Studies
when no treatments are imposed, we only observe
Response Variable
the outcome
Experiments
when treatments are imposed (this allows for cause and effect)
Treatment
what is done to the participants
Explanatory Variable
used to predict
Experimental Units
what/who the treatment is imposed on
Confounding Variables
variables not controlled that can affect the results
Control
what stays the same
Randomization
what is random
Replication
what repeats
Random Sample
we can generalize out conclusions
Random Assignment
we can say the treatment caused the change (cause and effect)
