Describe the stages of BGM?

Answer 1

1. Get equipment
2. Wash and dry hands and put on PPE (gloves and apron)
3. Intro + consent etc
4. Wash the patient’s hands with soap and water (don’t use alcohol)
5. Remove test strip and insert into monitor
6. Lance side of patients finger (put in sharps bin)
7. Lightly touch drop of blood to test strip
8. Once meter displays measurement dispose of strip in orange bag
9. Apply clean tissue and cotton wool to patient’s finger
10. Report results
11. Wipe meter with alcowipe
