Q

Beta blockers Nursing implications

A

HX & physical, allergies
Baseline of level of orientation
Cardio pulmonary status
Pulse, BP, resp rate, listen to lungs, ECG, bowel sounds
Labs: Liver/Kidney; electrolytes
Do not stop drugs abruptly if been on it chronically; gradually over 2wks; rebound HTN can occur
IV then monitor continuously
Monitor BP, pulse rhythm & cardiac output regularly
Response to drug
Teach to do their own pulse
Follow up appointments
Safety, no dizziness, weakness & fatigue
alleviation of S&S of angina
Let us know of loss of libido & impotence (so they don’t stop beta blocker)
