Q

Why and when was Nato created

A

4 April 1949

The crisis showed the need for a strong military
alliance to deter Soviet aggression.

NATO – a western military alliance was created.

US was now committed to the defence of
Western Europe.

This caused further tension. Stalin saw it as an
‘aggressive alliance’.

The arms race accelerates.
