The desire to provide a record of the circumstances of his life for his posterity(descendent)
Why did he read “the Spectators” over and over?
It was the basis for own writing exercises and he aimed at imitating its style.
His religious views : the religious principles he accepted:
1) God exists and created the world (governed by his providence)
2) the soul is immortal.
3) crime will be punished and virtue rewarded either here or in the hereafter.(this life or the next)
4) the most acceptable service of God is doing good to man.
5) He did not accept that Jesus lived, died and was resurrected.
Know Franklins list of virtues:(pg.100) There are 13.#13 was not listed as one of the original virtues but added after a Quaker friend said to Franklin (what did they say to Franklin?)
“you lack this virtue,you need to add it”
