The answer to a subtraction sentence.

This is used in division and can mean how much will be equally shared.
Share
This means to to split into equal parts.
Split
This term is commonly used in math to equally divide something up.
Equal Parts/Same Amount
This means to have parts that are even it is commonly used in division. This can also be parts that equal a whole.
Fraction
How many parts of a whole.
Whole Number
A whole number is a number without any decimal fraction and is not negative.
Mixed Number
A whole number combined with a fraction.
Improper Fraction
This means the numerator is greater then the denominator.
Numerator
The top number in a fraction. Shows us how many parts we have.
Denominator
The bottom number in a fraction. Shows how many equal parts the thing is divided into.
Equivalent Fractions
Fractions that look different but are same in value.
Simplest Form
When something is in its simplest form this means it can’t be simplified.
Simplify
This means to reduce or make a fraction as simple as possible.
Rounded
The number is as close to the original number and makes it easier to do math.
Estimate
To find a value that is close enough to the right answer, usually with some thought or calculation involved.
Expression
Numbers, symbols and operators (such as + and ×) grouped together that show the value of something.
Equation
This is were two numbers equal one number.
Value
A number or the result of a calculation.
Divide
To split into equal parts or groups it is “fair sharing”.
Dividend
The amount you want to divide up.
Divisor
The number we divide by.
Decimal
Based on ten.
Tenths
One part in ten equal groups.
Hundredths
One part in a hundred equal groups.
Thousandths
One part in a thousand equal groups.
Place Value
The value of where a digit is placed.
Analyze
To identify information.
Cause
The reason something happens.
Effect
The result.
Chronological
Events put in the order they happen.
Main Idea
The big idea the author makes.
Theme
The lesson of the story.
Point of View
Who is talking in the story.`
First Person
Character is talking -uses, I, me or my.
Second Person
Talks to reader -uses you, your, yours.
Third Person
Narrator is talking -uses he, she, then, they.
Genre
The type of story.
Plot
What happened in the story.
Setting
Where the story takes place.
Summarize
Tell what happened but not the whole story.
Compare
Show how to things are alike.
Contrast
show how to things are different.
Climax
The big event or conflict in the story.
Resolution
The ending
Infer
Make an educated guest.
Evaluate
Give your opinion of what is important; discuss the strengths and weaknesses.
Predict
Guess what will happen.
