What are the characteristics of the three different regions in the American colonies?
New England: puritans, religiously non tolerant, shipping
Middle: Culturally diverse, trade, quakers
Southern: plantations and slave farming

2 house party first limited government
What is an example of limited government?
Magna carta, limited power of the king and gave citizen rights
What is salutary neglect?
when the english government forgot about the colonists and they governed themselves
What is federalism?
division of national and state government
What is manifest destiny?
Railroads helped US expand and they colonized from east to west and created new trade
what is the Monroe Doctrine?
The Us policy to stay out of western hemisphere problems
What is the Declaration of Independence?
The letter written by the colonies to Great Britain saying they were an independent nation, Thomas jefferson
What does the saying “No taxation without representation” mean and what did it lead to?
The colonist felt like Great Britain shouldn’t tax them because they had no one speaking up for them over there. And lead to boycotting British goods
What is the navigation Act?
products not produced by the mother country were to be shipped from the colonies only to England, restricted trade and caused more acts and ended up cause colonist to send declaration of independence
What is the Articles of confederation and why did it fail?
Was the first set of laws(before constitution) gave power to individual states none to the government
were able to coin money and declare war (federal/central) government to weak to effectively lead
What happened at the Battle of Yorktown?
General Cornwallis surrendered to Washington with help of French Navy
What is Social Darwinism?
survival of the fittest
What is the poll tax and literacy test?
You had to pay a poll a tax and take literacy test to be able to vote during reconstruction. To prevent blacks to be able to vote
What are Jim Crow laws?
blacks and whites had to use separate public facilities(separate but equal)
What is the solid south?
one potical(democratic) party causing oppression of African Americans
what is the court case plessey vs. ferguson?
segregation was constitutional, separate but equal

immigrates were opposed by natives
