What are the 2 ethical convictions of respect for persons?
Respect for persons incorporates at 2 ethical convictions:
1. individuals should be treated as autonomous agents, 2. persons with diminished autonomy are entitled to protection.
What is beneficence?
It means that we must treat persons in an ethical manner not only be respecting their decisions and protecting them from harm, but also by making efforts to secure their well-being
National Research Act
created the National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research.

What are the 2 moral requirements of respect for persons?
- the requirement to acknowledge autonomy
2. the requirement to protect those with diminished autonomy.
What two general rules have been formulated as complementary expressions of beneficent actions?
1) do not harm and 2) maximize possible benefits and minimize possible harm.
What does Justice Mean?
selection of subjects should be applicable to the population being studied. Cannot seek out come classes because of their ease of availability , compromised position, or manipulability

Respect for persons requires that subjects, to the degree that they are eligible, be given the opportunity to choose what shall or shall not happen to them.
3 standards of informed consent
1) Information, 2) Comprehension, and 3) Voluntariness.
