EP: Engine Restart In-Flight

A

Manual FADEC Mode Procedure:

  • Adjust collective to maintain 85-107% NR
  • Adjust airspeed as desired
  • 55 KIAS with minimum NR allow pilot more time
  • Close throttle
  • FADEC MODE switch to MAN
  • FUEL VALVE switch ON
  • STARTER button Press and Hold
  • NG 12%
  • Throttle slowly advance out of cutoff and stop at lightoff
  • MGT allow to peak
  • Throttle modulate throttle to maintain mgt
  • Release start switch at 50% NG
  • Check oil pressures
  • Throttle advance smoothly to full open position
  • If restart unsuccessful abort and secure engine
  • Throttle closed
  • FUEL VALVE switch OFF
  • Autorotative descent

Automatic FADEC Mode Procedure:

  • Collective adjust for 85-107%
  • Adjust airspeed as needed
  • Fuel Valve switch ON
  • Throttle OFF
  • Start switch hold til throttle at idle
  • NG between 12-50
  • Throttle to IDLE
  • Monitor MGT
  • Check oil ressures
  • Throttle advance smoothly to fly
  • If no good throttle off
  • Fuel valve OFF
  • Autorotative descent

A

Indication:

  • Decrease in NG
  • Subsequent decrease in NP
  • Possible decrease in NR
  • Decrease in Torque

Recovery:

  • Adjust collective to maintain 85-107%
  • Confirm throttle in FLY
  • Throttle position to approximate bezel position that coincides with the gauge indicated NG
  • FADEC mode switch to MAN
  • Maintain NR 95-100
  • Land as soon as practical

A

Indication:

  • Increase in NR
  • Increase in NP
  • Increase in NG
  • Increase in torque

Recovery:

  • Retard throttle
  • NG or NP (attempt to stabilize with throttle and collective)
  • FADEC MODE switch to MAN
  • NR maintain at 95-100% with throttle and collective
  • if unable to maintain nr, np, ng, or mgt prepare for power off landing by lowering collective and shutting down engine

A

Indication:

  • Engine pops
  • High or erratic TOT
  • Decreasing or erratic NG or NP
  • Torque oscillations

Recovery:

  • use collective and reduce power, maintain slow cruise flight
  • MGT and NG check for normal indications
  • ENGINE ANTIICING switch ON
  • PARTICLE SEP PRG switch ON
  • HEATER switch ON
  • Decide if its bad enough you need to shutdown engine
  • Continued flight
  • Increase collective slowly to achieved desired power
  • MGT and NG montior for normal response
  • Land as soon as practical
  • Decide to shutdown
  • Enter autorotation
  • Close throttle
  • FUEL VALVE switch OFF
  • Accomplish AUTOROTATIVE DESCENT PROCEDURE

Indication:

  • Excessive MGT
  • Visible smoke or fire

Recovery:

  • Close throttle
  • FUEL VALVE switch OFF

  • Locked pedals

Recovery:

  • In high power condition helicopter will yaw to left when power is reduced.
  • Adjust power and airspeed as needed
  • Establish power on approach at low airspeed(zero if needed)
  • raise collective to cushion landing minimizing yaw

  • Locked pedals

Recovery:

  • In cruise or reduced power situation helicopter will yaw to right when power is increased.
  • At low power run on landing is necessary by gradually reducing throttle to maintain heading while adding collective to cushion landing
  • If right yaw is excessive close throttle completely

EP: Hydraulics: Loss Of Hydraulic Pressure

A

Indication:

  • Grinding or howling noise from pump
  • Increase in force requ. to move controls
  • Feedback forces may be evident during control movement
  • Cyclic and collective movements are rate limited

Recovery:

  • Reduce speed to 70-100 kias
  • HYDR SYSTEM cb out (if hyd power is not restored push cb in)
  • HYDRAULIC SYSTEM switch ON (OFF if hyd power is not restored)
  • Extended flight up to 120 kias
  • Land as soon as practical
  • Run on landing at approximately 15 GIAS recommended

A

Indication:

  • Uncommanded flight control movements
  • High flight control forces to oppose movement in one axis
  • Feedback forces only in affected flight control axis
  • Flight control forces normal in unaffected axis

Procedure:

  • Maintain attitude
  • HYDRAULIC SYSTEM switch OFF
  • Airspeed 70-100 kias
  • Land as soon as practical
  • Run on landing at approximately 15 gias

A

Indication:

  • GEN FAIL light
  • DC loadmeter indicates 0% load
  • Voltmeter approximately 24v

Recovery:

  • GEN FIELD and GEN RESET cb check in
  • GEN switch RESET then to GEN
  • If power not restored place GEN switch to OFF
  • Land as soon as practical

*full batts about 21 minutes power for basic heli and one vhf com radio operation

A

Indication:

  • DC Loadmeter indicates excessive load
  • Smoke or fumes

Recovery:

  • GEN switch OFF
  • BATT switch OFF
  • LEFT FUEL BOOST/XFR LEFT cb check in
  • Prior to batt depletion get below 8000’
  • gen off and batt 80% charged will operate left boost/xfr approximately 1.7 hrs
  • 60 kias or less
  • Land as soon as practical

EP: Dual Fuel Transfer Failure

A

Indication:

  • L/FUEL. XFR AND R/FUEL XFR lights
  • Last 151 lbs in forward cell unusable
  • Fuel stops transferring from fwd cell to aft cell at approximately 344.1 lbs total indicated
Recovery:
-L and R FUEL BOOST/XFR cb’s ON
-Determine FUEL QTY in forward cells
Subtract qty of fuel trapped in fwd tanks to determine useable fuel
-Plan landing accordingly

Indication:
-Battery overheating

Recovery:

  • Turn BATT switch OFF and land as soon as practical
  • If BATT RLY caution light comes on land as soon as possible

  • FADEC MODE switch mute audio by pressing. Autorelight light comes on
  • Land as soon as practical
  • Normal shitdown if possible

A

Indications:

  • Smoke fumes or fire
  • Possible abnormal amps indication

Recovery:

  • Vents/Windows open
  • Begin descent
  • Land as soon as possible

*If source identified remove power to equipment

  • if source not identified
  • GEN switch OFF
  • Land as soon as practical
  • If fumes/smoke continues
  • 60 KIAS or less
  • BATT switch OFF
  • Fuel BOOST/XFR LEFT breaker on
  • If not fixed Land as soon as possible
  • Before batt depletion get below 8000’ and could lose as much as 151 lbs of fuel
  • Batt at 80% should have left boost/xfr run for 1.7 hrs
  • Pedal stop disengages when batt power is lost

  • Only cyclic fwd and aft movement restricted

Recovery:

  • Maintain normal pitch attitude
  • do not turn of hydraulics
