EP: Engine Failure: Hovering

A

Indication:

  • Left Yaw
  • ENG OUT Light Illuminates
  • Engine Instruments indicate powerloss
  • ENG OUT Audio when N1 below 55%
  • NR decr. with ROTOR LOW RPM light and audio on when NR below 90%

Recovery:

  • Maintain Collective
  • Control Yaw with Pedals
  • Increase Collective to Cushion Landing
  • Complete Helicopter Shutdown

A

Indication:

  • Left Yaw

Recovery:

  • Enter Autorotation
  • Attempt Restart if Altitude permits
  • If engine doesnt restart
  • Throttle closed
  • FUEL VALVE switch OFF
  • Maintain heading and attitude
  • Collective adjust to maintain 90-107% NR
  • Cyclic adjust for airspeed
  • Flare to lose airspeed
  • Apply collective as flare effect decreases to reduce speed and cushion landing
  • Complete helicopter shutdown

EP: Engine Restart In-Flight

A

Procedure:
-Adjust collective to maintain 90-107% NR
-Adjust airspeed as desired
*52 KIAS with minimum NR allow pilot more time
-Close throttle
-FUEL VALVE switch ON
-STARTER button Press and Hold
*If N1 is below 30% throttle shall be modulated to prevent exceeding TOT
-Throttle to Idle
-TOT modulate throttle to maintain 716-768 or 716-826(If red triangle)
-Throttle advance smoothly to full open position
*If restart unsuccessful abort and secure engine
-Throttle closed
-FUEL VALVE switch OFF

EP: Engine Underspeed

A

Indication:

  • Decrease in N1
  • Subsequent decrease in N2
  • Possible decrease in NR
  • Decrease in Torque

Recovery:

  • Adjust collective to maintain 90-107%
  • Confirm throttle full open
  • If unable to maintain NR establish autorotative glide.
  • Enter Autorotation
  • Throttle closed
  • FUEL VALVE switch OFF
  • Maintain heading and attitude
  • Collective adjust to maintain 90-107% NR
  • Cyclic adjust for airspeed
  • Flare to lose airspeed
  • Apply collective as flare effect decreases to reduce speed and cushion landing
  • Complete helicopter shutdown
  • Prepare for poweroff landing
  • If engine underspeeds but still operates dont shutdown. Helps tail rotor effectiveness.

EP: Engine Overspeed

A

Indication:

  • Increase in NR
  • Increase in N2
  • Increase in N1
  • Increase in torque

Recovery:

  • Retard throttle
  • N1 or N2/NR (attempt to stabilize with throttle and collective)
  • Monitor TOT for normal operation
  • NR maintain at 90-107% with throttle and collective
  • If unable to maintain N1,N2,NR prepare for power off landing and shit off engine
  • Enter autorotation
  • Close throttle
  • FUEL VALVE switch OFF
  • Accomplish Autorotative Descent Procedure

EP: Engine Compressor Stall/Surge

A

Indication:

  • Engine pops
  • High or erratic TOT
  • Decreasing or erratic N1,N2
  • Torque oscillations

Recovery:

  • use bollective and reduce power, maintain slow cruise flight
  • TOT &N1 check for normal indications
  • ENGINE ANTIICING switch ON
  • PARTICLE SEP PRG switch ON
  • HEATER switch ON
  • Decide if its bad enough you need to shutdown engine
  • Continued flight
  • Increase collective slowly to achieved desired power
  • TOT & N1 montior for normal response
  • Land as soon as practical
  • Decide to shutdown
  • Enter autorotation
  • Close throttle
  • FUEL VALVE switch OFF
  • Accomplish AUTOROTATIVE DESCENT PROCEDURE

EP: Engine Hot Start/Shutdown

A

Indication:

  • Excessive TOT
  • Visible smoke or fire

Recovery:

  • Close throttle
  • FUEL VALVE switch OFF
  • STARTER button press to motor engine until TOT stabilizes at normal temp
  • Complete helicopter shutdown

Indication:

  • Engine oil pressure below minimum
  • Engine oil pressure above max or flucuating abnormally

Recovery:

  • if eng oil pressure is below minimum montitor eng oil pressure and temp. Land as soon as possible
  • if eng oil pressure is above max or fluctuating monitor oil pressure and temp. Land as sson as practical

  • ROTOR LOW RPM audio horn and light
  • Possible increase in noise level

Recovery:

  • Accomplish AUTOROTATIVE DESCENT PROCEDURE
  • To maintain tail rotor effectiveness do not shutdown engine
  • Complete helicopter shutdown

Recovery:

  • Inflight
  • Start descent
  • HEATER switch OFF
  • All vents open
  • Open side windows
  • if time and altitude permits
  • attempt to identify source
  • if identified and smoke and fumes still persist land as soon as possible
  • if identified and smoke and or fumes are cleared land as soon as practical

  • Maintain minimum airspeed of 52 KIAS
  • When no suitable landing spot controlled flight at lower power setting can be done and sufficient airspeed

  • dont close throttle unless severe right yaw occurs
  • can land under power but more dangerous
  • Before landing best to do hover auto

A

Indication:

  • Lack of directional response
  • Locked pedals

Recovery:

  • In high power condition helicopter will yaw to left when power is reduced.
  • Adjust power and airspeed as needed
  • Establish power on approach at low airspeed(zero if needed)
  • raise collective to cushion landing minimizing yaw

EP: Fixed Pitch Tailrotor: In-Flight Right Pedal Applied

A

Indication:

  • Lack of directional response
  • Locked pedals

Recovery:

  • In cruise or reduced power situation helicopter will yaw to right when power is increased.
  • At low power run on landing is necessary by gradually reducing throttle to maintain heading while adding collective to cushion landing
  • If right yaw is excessive close throttle completely

EP: Hydraulics: Loss Of Hydraulic Pressure

A

Indication:

  • Grinding or howling noise from pump
  • Increase in force requ. to move controls
  • Feedback forces may be evident during control movement
  • Cyclic and collective movements are rate limited

Recovery:

  • Reduce speed to 61-69 (L3) 60-80 (L4)
  • HYDR SYSTEM cb out (if hyd power is not restored push cb in)
  • HYDRAULIC SYSTEM switch ON (OFF if hyd power is not restored
  • Land as soon as practical
  • Run on landing at approximately 9 GIAS recommended

EP: Hydraulics: Flight Control Actuator Malfunction

A

Indication:

  • Uncommanded flight control movements
  • High flight control forces to oppose movement in one axis
  • Feedback forces only in affected flight control axis
  • Flight control forces normal in unaffected axis

Procedure:

  • Maintain attitude
  • HYDRAULIC SYSTEM switch OFF
  • Airspeed 61-69 (L3) 60-80 (L4)
  • HYDR SYSTEM cb out (if hyd power is not restored push cb in)
  • HYDRAULIC SYSTEM switch ON (OFF if hyd power is not restored
  • Land as soon as practical
  • Run on landing at approximately 9 GIAS recommended

EP: Generator Failure

A

Indication:

  • GEN FAIL light
  • DC loadmeter indicates 0% load

Recovery:

  • GEN FIELD & GEN RESET cb check in
  • GEN switch RESET then to GEN
  • If power not restored place GEN switch to OFF
  • Land as soon as practical
  • 80% battery with all electrical equipment off should make fuel boost pump last 3hrs
  • Night flight approximately 1hr of battery power available

EP: Excessive Electrical Load

A

Indication:

  • DC Loadmeter indicates excessive load
  • Smoke or fumes

Recovery:

  • GEN switch OFF
  • BATT switch OFF
  • LEFT FUEL BOOST cb check in

EP: Fuel Transfer Failure

A

Indication:
-FWD cells fuel qty stays constant approximately 195.8 pounds and below

Recovery:
-Determine FUEL QTY in forward cells
Subtract qty of fuel trapped in fwd tanks to determine useable fuel
*86.3 lbs will stay trapped in forward tank
-Plan accordingly

BATT HOT warning light

A

Indication:

  • Battery overheating
  • Temp at 60 c or higher

Recovery:

  • Turn BATT switch OFF and land as soon as practical
  • If BATT RLY caution light comes on land as soon as possible

LITTER DOOR OPEN warning light

A

Indication:
-litter door not secure

Recovery:

  • Close door securely before flight
  • If inflight
  • Land as soon as practical

A

Indication:

  • N1 less than 55 +/- 3% RPM
  • N2 Decreasing

Recovery:

  • Verify engine condition
  • Accomplish engine failure procedure

-ROTOR below 90%

Recovery:

  • Reduce collective and ensure throttle full open
  • When above 90% light and audio should cease

Recovery:

  • Reduce power
  • Verify fault with gauge
  • Land as soon as possible

Recovery:
