What is the Messiah?
The Messiah is the ‘anointed one’ who Jews believe will bring in a new era / age for humankind. This will include rebuilding the Temple and bringing in an age of universal peace.

The Messianic Age is a term for a future time of peace on Earth. There will be no violence, hunger or crime.

The first step of the Messianic Age for many Jews is the coming of the Messiah, and the resurrection of the dead.

- Orthodox Jews believe that the Messiah is one of the 13 principles of Judaism.
- Reform Jews believe that it is through the actions of people that will bring a Messianic Age of peace.

There are no definite teachings about the Messiah in the Torah. This means that passages have to be interpreted as to what some Jews believe.

In Judaism, there is a strong belief that humans should focus on the here and now.
The world to come is beyond humans’ understanding.

The traditional belief is that he will be a great political leader and judge, who will bring the world to an end. Some believe he will be a descendant of King David.
