Behavioural Approach Flashcards
What are the main assumptions?
1: only interested in behaviour which is observable and can be measured
2: reject introspection, difficult to measure instead want more control and objectivity
3: Basic processes that manage learning are the same in all species
What is the behavioural approach
A way of explaining behaviour in terms of what is observable and in terms of learning
What is classical conditioning
Refers to learning by association when two stimuli are paired together repeatedly
What is operant conditioning
A form of learning in which behaviour is shaped and maintained by its consequences
Reinforcements and punishments
R- repeat
P-stop behaviour
Evaluations of behavioural approach
Strength objectivity
Real life application
Weakness
Deterministic
Reductionist
