What is the difference between counseling and therapy?
Counseling is personal guidance to meet their goals.
Therapy is relieving or curing a disability or illness
What are the types of psychotherapy? Describe each.
Psychoanalytic:
-freudian traditions; few months to a few years
Behavioral Therapy:
-reduces sx; relaxation techniques, graduated exposure to distressing stimuli. 6-12sessions
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:
-pt taught to challenge negative thoughts; 10-20sessions
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy:
-works on life skills, 1st therapy to show positive change in borderline personality disorder.
Group Therapy:
Describe the differences between hallucinations, delusions, andd illusions
Illusions are based on external stimulus – ex. voices on the wind or heat waves that cause distortion.
Hallucinations are not based on an external stimulus, they are construed in the head.
Delusion - fixed belief that has no basis in reality.
What are 4 ways to build rapport during the psychiatric interview?
Reflection, silence, confrontation, reassurance

Montreal Cognitive Assessment
Used for dx of dimentia, score less than 26 = mild cognitive impairment.
SLUMS = dementia; St Louie university mental status
Depression:
-Zung Self-rating depression scale: average score depression is 50-69 and severe depression is greater than 69.
-Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression:
0-7: WNL
8-19: Mild depression
greater than 20: moderate to severe
