BEFORE INTERVENTION Flashcards
What are the specific tools, instruments, or techniques used in the evaluation process?
ROM Strength Sensibility testing Endurance Dexterity Work
Evaluation
process of gathering data
formation of hypothesis and make decisions
Purpose of Evaluation
establish goals, prove intervention is working, ADL/Independent Living Status, document need for specific programs, facilitate education/vocational goals, and substantiates the insurance
Where does the evaluation process start?
Usually with an occupational profile
Occupational Profile
occupational history and experiences Pattern of daily living interests values needs
What do we get as the result of the occupational profile?
Understanding the patient’s perspective
What is the most common frame of reference is most commonly used in ortho?
Biomechanical Frame of Reference
Analysis of occupational performance
select appropriate assessment, select appropriate outcome measures, interpret measurement data, hypothesis (strengths and weaknesses), make goals in collaboration with the patient, and develop the intervention strategies based off of goals
Bottom-up approach
Looking at impairment area first
Evaluation: History
demographics age hand dominance occupation avocations (sports, hobbies, leisure activities) injury and specific history regarding it location/mechanism of injury (time/date, previous treatment, and surgery) history of illness general health other illnesses allergies to medication
Questions to ask during goal-oriented history
What is the patient unable to do now that they could do before?
What is the impact of the injury on the patient’s family, economy, and social impact?
What does the patient want from surgery?
When do our observations begin?
As soon as the patient enters the room or when you enter the room
Special Assessment Tests for Ortho
Hawkins Test – Shoulder
Watson Test – Wrist
Biomechanical Assumptions
- Purposeful activity can treat loss of ROM, strength, endurance
- Once regained, client will automatically regain function
- Rest and Strength to heal structures and to regain ROM
- Suited for persons with intact CNS, must perform smooth, isolated motion.
Why do we evaluate?
Establishes baseline
Determines limitation
Set treatment goals
Determine treatment results and outcomes
