Before Anaesthetic Maintenance

The patient has been intubated and has been brought into the theatre. What are 5 things that must be done before vitals and scrubbing can be performed?

1. Turn on O2 source.
2. Turn on flowmeter to 2.
3. Half cuff ETT.
4. Connect patient.
5. Turn on ISO to 2.

Question 2

What are 5 things you must do once the patient has been connected to the anaesthetic machine and is breathing in ISO and O2?

Answer 2

1. Check vitals, blink/other reflexes, jaw tone, eye position, MM, CRT.
2. Connect to monitor.
3. Scrub surgical site.
4. Take vitals, again!
5. Take temperature, if have time!
   = Once done, drape and scalpel surgeon and keep dedicated monitoring and informing!
