What is the wort in beer production?
A Sugar Rich liquid from malted grain that is fermented
What are the four ingredients in making beer?
Water, yeast, starch source, hops
What do hops add to beer?
It adds bitterness and flavor, and has preservative and antiseptic qualities
What is the difference between lager and ale beers?
Lager: fermentation occurs at the bottom at a cooler temperature and longer period of time
Ale: fermentation occurs at the top at a warmer temperature and for a shorter period of time
What are lambic beers?
From Belgium; fermentation happens spontaneously with native wild yeasts in open top containers
What are two producers of Belgian lambics?
Kriek, Lindemans
What is geuze?
A mixture of 1 year old lambic with 2-3 yr old lambics, then refermented with aged hops in bottle
