Q

What is the conclusion of Becker?

A

Characters on western tv act as role models for young Fijian girls. They feel pressure to conform to slim body types even if it is against Fijian traditional culture
Qualitative data suggested many girls did not understand the unreal nature of media images

16
Q

How might the sample not be generalisable?

A

Small sample in both waves (63 and 65)
Ethnocentric as it only took place in Fiji (However, couldn’t of studied any more cultures)
Only looked at women so may be gynocentric

17
Q

How might the procedure not be valid?

A

May of been social desirability when answering EAT-26 questionnaire - may want to look ‘good’ about their eating behaviours
Extraneous variables may of contributed e.g. increase in consumerism
