BECCEs Flashcards
Fire in the Engine Room
Zero Thrust Notify Crew Disengage Both Engines Secure Both Engines Secure Fuel Cutoffs Engineer view CCTV to check for fire On Coxswain command, energize FM200 system Secure all non-essential power at DC & AC panels Set reflash watch
Loss of Steering
Zero Thrust
Notify Crew
Disengage both engines
Transfer control to opposite steering station and test
Check circuit breaker (24V DC Engine Bus)
Engineer check CCTV to ensure safe to enter E/R
Station Crewmember with fire extinguisher
Check bilges for oil and hydraulic system for leaks
If safe to enter Laz, check for leaks and test steering system at proportional valves
If no response, connect backup steering console
Struck Submerged Object
Zero Thrust
Notify Crew
Disengage Clutches
Engineer check CCTV, Aux, and Laz for flooding
Crew check forepeak and survivor compartment for flood
Conduct steering checks (including buckets and intcptrs)
Check for vib/flood/damage to propulsion sys at various engine speeds while disengaged and engaged
If necessary, operate at RPM below range of vibrations
Loss of Lube Oil Pressure
Zero Thrust Disengage affected engine Secure affected engine Engineer check CCTV to ensure safe to enter E/R Fire extinguisher on scene Check bilge for oil Check system for leaks Check oil sump for quality/quantity Check coolant tank DO NOT START ENGINE IF CAUSE NOT DETERMINED OR REPAIRED
High Water Temp
Zero Thrust
Identify affected engine
Disengage clutches
Check for overboard discharge
Secure engine if temp above 211 or steam present
Engineer check CCTV to ensure safe to enter E/R
Check bilges and engine for leaks
Check raw war pipe for coolness to the touch
If cool check jacket water system
If hot check raw water system
Loss of Fuel Oil Pressure
Zero Thrust Disengage affected engine Secure affected engine Engineer check CCTV to ensure safe to enter E/R Check bilge for fuel oil Check fuel system for leaks Check fuel tank level Check fuel cutoff valves are open Check primary fuel filters
Loss of Engine RPM
Zero Thrust Disengage affected engine Shift to opposite control station Shift to backup console Try forward engine stop button Try Engineer console EMER Stop button Pull cutoff valve Maneuver safely on one engine
Fouled Waterjet
Zero Thrust Disengage affected engine Come ahead on clutched in engine Disengage affected engine Back flush affected waterjet If no response, secure affected engine
Unusual Noise or Vibration
Zero Thrust
Disengage Port or Stbd clutch
Come ahead on clutched in engine to determine affected engine
Secure affected engine
Engineer view CCTV to ensure safe to enter E/R
Check affected power train for unusual conditions
Check oil sumps for quality/quantity
Loss of Auragen
Identify which Auragen is affected via engineer console
Reduce to safe speed
Engineer view CCTV to ensure safe to enter E/R
Check affected generator and associated cabling
