How does the rate of erosion increase?

A

It increases at 1m per year, this is because freeze thaw weathering, very wet winters so therefore the land becomes saturated, sea erosion.

A

Jan 1999 collapse and also Devils Chimney collapse in April 2001

What makes it worse?

A

There are Sea defences elsewhere, which speeds up erosion here, no Sea defences and bad weather caused by climate change

Why has it negatively impacted the locals and environment?

A

They have had to move the lighthouse, theyve lost 1 million tourists a year as visitors told to stay away. There are over 40 types of plant species that could be destroyed, although erosion is a natural process which keeps the cliffs white
