<40 minimal anxiety, 40-60 moderate, >60 severe
Zung Self-Rated Anxiety Scale (SAS)

Avoid BZDs
Buspirone = category B
Hydroxyzine has no data
GAD in peds
SSRIs first line
May required twice daily dosing for meds with shorter half life
Tx for 1 year minimum
GAD in elderly
Avoid BZDs and hydroxyzine
Sertraline and citalopram effective, escitalopram not
Landmark trial for GAD: SGA augmentation with quetiapine
Quetiapine effective as monotherapy, increased risk of d/c due to ADEs
PD diagnostic criteria
Recurrent panic attacks (psychological and physical sx) plus at least 1 month of worry about the attacks
Panic Disorder Severity Scale (PDSS)
Use: PD Clinician-rated Assess severity; if agoraphobia present, subtract two points for score interpretation 0-1 normal 2-5 borderline 6-9 slightly ill 10-13 moderately ill 14-28 markedly ill
Pain and Agoraphobia Scale (PAS)
Use: PD Two versions: observer and self rated Diagnose, monitor treatment efficacy Rated on a 0-4 Likert scale Total score: add all items together, indicates severity of illness (mean~23)
Sheehan Patient-Rated Anxiety Scale (SPRAS)
Use: PD Self-rated Assess severity Rate 35 items on 5-point spectrum Weighted towards somatic sx
