What is the power of the church?
It is ministerial and declarative
The Power of Order: Officers preaching the Word, administering the sacraments, etc.
The Power of Jurisdiction: Officers judging/disciplining
How may the BCO be amended?
GA’s approval by majority present and voting, and its recommending to Presbyteries
Advice and consent of 2/3 of Presbyteries, and
Subsequent GA’s approval and enactment by majority of those present and voting
How may the doctrinal standards be amended?
GA’s approval by 3/4 present and voting, and its recommending to Presbyteries
Advice and consent of 3/4 of Presbyteries, and
Subsequent GA’s approval and consummation of 3/4 of those present and voting
What is the goal of church discipline?
The glory of God
The purity of the church
The keeping and reclaiming of disobedient sinners (the goal is godliness)
What are the four ways a church court can refer a matter to a different court?
Appeal = a matter may be appealed from a lower court to a higher court
Complaint = a written complaint against a lower court that a higher court will take up
Reference = a lower court may make a written request for advice from a higher court
Review and Control = the higher court must review the records of the lower court

What is the difference between a committee and a commission?
“A commission differs from an ordinary committee in that while a committee is appointed to examine, consider and report, a commission is authorized to deliberate upon and conclude the business referred to it.”
