Bayonet Charge Flashcards
the soldier becoming aware of his situation
“Suddenly he awoke and was running”
This is the soldier realising the mental trap and conditioning he’s been trapped into.
“Raw”
Painful/authentic/recent
Gun fire
The alliteration of “r” in “running- raw in raw” could be the firing of a gun with pauses between shots.
The air is personified and he is too
“Smacking the belly out of the air”
The change
Line 1-8 physical change “raw” “stumbling” “belly” “sweat”
Line 9-15 psychological “ bewilderment”
“Reason” stanza 1&3 start with a verb. This doesn’t. Showing its a mental moment. The change then means you realise your experience is because of the nation and society and people in control. That becomes your focus.
Line 16-23 national “king”
Feeling lost
“In what cold clockwork” what sequence of events led him there.
Luxury is irrelevant
“King, hounour, human dignity, etcetera dropped like luxeiries in a yelling alarm”
You shouldn’t be controlled by these people. Their power is worthless. ( he feels resentment to higher powers)
Or it could be him giving up and realising humans will drop anything for their life, even that which they always desired. He has to give up his fight for “honour, human dignity”
