When: June 17 1775
Result: British won but the americans proved that they could put up a good fight.

Result: American Victory. Forced British general and 5,000 soldiers to surrender

- French joined the war to help the Americans
Valley Forge
Where: Valley Forge, Pennsylvania (20 miles from Philadelphia)
When: Winter of 1777-1778
Result: More disciplined and well trained as an army + stronger

- Many soldiers died of smallpox, frostbite, and starvation
- Made the army tougher and more well trained
- The continental army survived the winter after being cold and starving

Result: Americans won defeated one of the most powerful armies in the world
