Why did they claim the throne?
A
William was promised the throne by Edward the Confessor and Harold Godwinson said he’d support him. Harold Godwinson said that Edward promised him on his death bed. Harald Hadrada was a reputable of King Cnut(a previous king). Edgar was the the closest relative to Edward.

How useful is the Bayeux Tapestry to historians?
A
It is not they useful as William asked for it to be made so it would be blast to William. Also the tapestry makers were not at the scene of the fight.
