He takes of his helmet so everyone can see his face.

He arranges his soldiers in a shield wall formation making it nearly impossible to break through.
How does William break through the shield wall?
He tells some of his soldiers to fall back. Some of Harold’s soldiers run after them but that means the shield formation is broken.
What gave Harold the disadvantage at the Battle of Hastings?
Many of his best en had been killed at the Battle of Stamford bridge.

After the Battle of Stamford Bridge Harold refused to share the booty with his men. Many of his soldiers deserted the army.

William’s army had professional soldiers while Harolds mostly contained of farmers.

He burn’t his boats because he was sure he was going to win the battle, therefore he didn’t need a ride home.
