Q

Describe the events known as ‘the night of Power’

A

The Night of Power -
Muhammad was meditating in a cave known as Gar Hira, and he fell asleep.

But suddenly he woke up in abject terror and his body was shaking uncontrollably (He later described the experience as if an angel had him in such a tight suffocating embrace, that he felt his life was being squeezed out of him.)

As Muhammad lay there completely shattered, he heard one voice and it commanded with the word “Iqra” - which means read.

But Muhammad replied, “I can’t. I am not one of those who read. The voice returned for a second time.”Iqra”.
Muhammad replied, “I’m not one of those who read”
Then the voice returned for a third time. “Iqra”.

On this third command, Muhammad replied, “What should I read?”.
Muhammad received the revelation: Quran 96.

After receiving the revelation, Muhammad ran to his wife, “Khadijah, Oh Khadijah” he said “Cover me, cover me.”

“What has happened to me? I fear for myself.”

Khadijah took her cloaca and covered his body and then, with all of his doubts, she was the one who re-assured him about his experience.
Khadijah words not only calmed Muhammad, but they helped him reconcile himself with what had happened.
