Near Virginia stream known as Bull Run. Jackson got name ‘Stonewall’ Jackson. Union troops ran. Showed both sides needed training, and this was going to be a cold and bloody war.

Explain the Battle of Antietam.

September 1862, near a creek close to Antietam. 23,000 soldiers (N + S) killed or wounded. No clear winner, but North claimed victory. Found Lee’s battle plans wrapped on 3 cigars. McClellan is slow to act.
