Pragmatics?

A

knowledge about how language is used in different contexts

non linguistic- considers communicative function - can be social or intellectual -
we may adjust our language due to context
or socially e.g. turn taking
or perspective taking (take account of others perspectives such as the listeners knowledge)
or intonation (variation in pitch) and prosody (tone and rythm of speech)
