Forming Past Tense?

A

Words Ending In:

  • “Ir” become “I”,
  • “Er” become “E”,
  • “Re” become “U”.

Avoir + Past Participle = Past Tense.

We always use “J’ai” in front of the word.

E.g. “I Listened” = “J’ai Ecoute”
(ending “e” with accent).

Forming Present Tense?

A

We use the infinitive (“TO walk”, “TO climb”) to form the present tense.

Word ends in “ER”, we take off the “r”.
Word ends in “R” (without the “E” before it) we take off the “R” and replace with an “S”.
Word ends in “RE”, we take off the “RE” and replace with “S”.

E.g. “Manger” (to eat), “Je Mange” (I am eating).

Forming Future Tense?

Je Vais (I’m Going),

Je Voudrais (I Would Like),

J’espere (I Hope).

Future Idea + Infinitive = Future Tense.

E.g. Aller (To Go)
^This is the infinitive.
Je voudrais aller (I would like to go).
