What is FERPA?
1.The federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Student information records can be released to third parties only with their written consent.
What are the exceptions to FERPA?
Paragraph 3 allows exceptions to be made by the Chancellor or Vice-Chancellor if those exceptions are deemed to be in accordance with the University’s education mission (though students can unilaterally reject ANY release). It requires input by Chancellor’s cabinet and the registrar, and a contract with the third party.
What is Title IX?
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from discrimination based on gender in education programs and activities that receive
federal financial assistance. In 2001 and again in 2011, the Office for Civil Rights stated that “the sexual harassment of students, including sexual violence,
interferes with students’ right to receive an education free from discrimination and in the case of sexual violence, is a crime.”

What does the SRVR do?
The Sexual and Relationship Violence Response Team, housed in the counseling center, offers immediate triage assessment. Should the student wish to file an official complaint, they provide advocacy and support throughout the process.

What happens if a University Employee is informed of a sexual assault?
If they are not one of the 4 SU groupings prohibited from reporting without consent of the involved party, they are considered “responsible employees,” and are required to report the incident, including the identity of survivor and alleged perpetrator, to the Title IX Coordinator.
What is SSUI?
The Student SUccess Initiative is a Summer residential program committed to the retention of students.
What should a student do to be enrolled in SSUI?
Meet with a counselor. You need to complete an application and write a proposal, due in early March. Proposal must include (1) Why they believe it will help with academic success; (2) strategies they’ll use to ern grade “C” or higher; (3) the courses they plan to take
(Priority given to those on probation or with difficult loads).
What placement exams are offered prior to enrollment?
Math, foreign language, and language (for non-native speakers). The Math must be taken by anyone who wants to enroll in a math class. This test may be taken on myslice. Must take math exam before Aug 26 at 6pm.
What is FTES?
First Term Enrollment Selections. This opens in May for new students and usually closes around June 30. If they don’t register they’ll be among the last.
