How does a Pawn move/attack?
A Pawn moves 1 spot forwards, except on its first turn, where it may move 2. A Pawn attacks diagonally 99% of the time. (See ‘en passant’.)
How does a Bishop move/attack?
A Bishop may move as many spots as it wishes, but only diagonal.
How does a Knight move/attack?
Knights move in an L Formation. 2 spots and then one on the side. The Knight is the only piece that can jump other chessmen.
How does a Rook move/attack?
A Rook may move or attack down any Rank/File.
How does a Queen move/attack?
Queens may move as many squares as they want, in any direction.
How does the King move/attack?
The King may move or attack in any direction, but can only move once, and never put himself in check.
