Teacher Talk Advantages
Teacher = valuable lang resource, good classroom management, authentic listening text for students, best model for new language
Teacher Talk Disadvantages
Talk too much = boring, lang can be difficult to understand, only use basic words
Eliciting
Encourages student to reveal info that they already know
Eliciting Advantages
Involves students, increase teacher talk, take responsibility of their own learning, crucial info about what students know
Eliciting Disadvantages
Time consuming, danger of one student knowing more than others
Eliciting Techniques
Clues/prompts, pictures, names
Effective Instructions
Attract attention, simple lang + short explain, consistency, visual/written clues, demonstrate, break instruc down, be decisive and use signals (Eg. Right, Listen)
Activities
Controlled, guided, creative/free communication, pairwork/groupwork, and communicative activities
Pairwork/Group work
Valuable talking time, teacher break, encourage rapport, students cooperate (learner autonomy), enable participation and adds variety
Pairwork/Group work Disadvantages
Not all students enjoy it and should be used in limited amount in beginning
Planning activity
Clear idea of purpose, activity leads to pairwork, seating organised by activity, students remain occupied, have enough materials

Set up aids, put something on board, check seating arrangement, positive attitude, encourage to be on time
