Basic X Ray Info Flashcards
Collimation….please do tell me wtf this is
The light source that shows the actual beam size
X-Ray tubes contain what parts?
Cathode, Anode, fillament, focusing cup, focusing spot
What are the types of X-ray machines?
Fixed, the machine is attached to the table
Portable, the machine may be removed and handheld
Digital, the machine is processed on a computer not film
kVp
Adjusts the speed of electrons emitted from the filament
Affects the contrast (fine lines of black and white)
Santes rule - measurement in cm X 2 + source image distance
mA
Controls the volume or total number of electrons Affects density (how black are blacks and how white are whites)
Exposure time.
The actual amount of time the electrons are releases
A longer exposure time means a more detailed image
mAs
A computation between exposure time and mA settings
mA multiplied by exposure time
What is the grid….not the one with Clu
Piece of metal lined with many iron strips
Reduces scatter radiation
Focuses the beam on the film
What is a rare earth cussette?
A cassette containing a phosferus layer to improve the image quality
In what direction should the cassette be placed in the Bucky tray or on the table?
Latch side down
Slow screen speed means what?
Less mAs are needed but allows for slower exposure time and higher quality film
What does a high screen speed mean?
Requires more mA but shorter time allowing to capture a moving patient
What record must be imprinted on the film?
Name and address of hospital Date O name, P name or ID# Rad # Anatomy viewed L or R side marker
What must be logged in a rad record
Date O name, P name or ID# Rad # kVp, mA, exposure time Anatomical orientation and part of the body
What tissues are affected by radiation?
Lymphatic Blood forming tissues Thyroid gland Bone Gonads
