Basic terminology Flashcards
Analog Signal
audio wave transduced into alternating voltage
Digital signal
voltage reading sampled from analog signal stored as bits
PAD
reduce level of signal input prior to preamp - prevents overloading from high signals
low cut/high pass
reduce loudness of low frequencies
Line signal level
stronger signal from mixers (1 volt)
Mic signal level
weaker signal from microphones (0.01 volt)
Pre-Amp
boost mic level signal to line level
Sampling
measurement of voltage of signal at a specific point in time
Sample rate
samples per second - for frequency
Bit rate
values available to assign to sample - for volume
what does a field mixer do?
Portable device - for managing and mixing multiple audio sources
What do we use the 1K test tone for?
Reference tone at 1kHz - used for calibration of audio equipment - ensures accurate playback and recording
