10
Q

What do the different gauges do?

A

Contents gauge - clock/dial and measures how much fluid is in a tank

Gauge glass - Visual indication to tank level and you can press a button to read

Sounding tube- used to measure depth of liquid in a tank- dip tape

16
Q

Name the different types of valves

A

Globe valve, Gate valve, Flap valve, Saunders valve, Ball seated cock, Relief valve, Reducing valve, non-return valve, pressure control valve and remote operation valve

17
Q

What does a relief valve do?

A

Prevents over- pressurisation

18
Q

What does a reducing valve do?

A

Reduces pressure for part of a system

19
Q

What does a non-return valve do ?

A

Prevents reversal flow

20
Q

What does a pressure control valve do?

A

Maintains pressure at a set level and monitors the outlet pressure

21
Q

What is a ROV?

A

Remote operation valve - rod gearing or automated

22
Q

Name the two different types of pumps

A

Positive and dynamic displacement pump

23
Q

What is the difference between a positive and dynamic displacement pump?

A

Positive displacement pump has less flow and increases the pressure such as a gear wheel pump and a rotary pump but dynamic displacement pump has a large flow and low pressure such as axial and centrifugal pump.
The faster the flow the pressure decreases and slower the flow is the pressure will increase

24
Q

What does a motor do?

A

Converts electrical energy into mechanical motion which drives a pump

25
Q

Name the different system indicators available?

A

Bourdon tube, Manometer, tachometer and a thermometer

26
Q

How does a bourdon tube work

A

Tube extends as pressure increases and a needle moves around the dial

27
Q

What does a tachometer measure?

A

Rotational speed

28
Q

Name the three different Thermometers available

A

Fixed Brass
Standard Pocket
Clock/Dial face
Thermometer Pocket

29
Q

What is a Thermometer pocket ?

A

A plug fitted to systems to screw in a fixed brass thermometer and filled with oil to help heat conduction

30
Q

What is a flow meter?

A

Measures flow of a fluid

31
Q

What is a voltage meter?

A

Measures the potential difference or voltage between two points in electrical or electronic circuit

32
Q

What do filters do?

A

Remove small fine particles and the type depends on the system/fluid

33
Q

What are the two different filters available

A

Metallic and Absorbent

34
Q

What is a metallic filter made out of?

A

Wire, Wool, Steel plates and gauze screens

Reusable and can be washed and refitted when blocked

35
Q

What is an absorbent filter made out of?

A

Fabrics, felt, yarn, paper

Not reusable

36
Q

What is an Accumulator?

A

Used as pulsation dampeners and they store potential energy and release it if it is required
Bladder type and Piston type
