Basic Sound Principles Flashcards
1
Q
Frequency (pitch)
A
We perceive it as the pitch of a sound. It’s the cycles
per second of a sound wave, measured in Hertz. The faster the rate, the higher the frequency.
2
Q
Amplitude (loudness)
A
Measurement of the height in the sound wave
3
Q
Reflection
A
When a sound wave strikes a hard surface, it changes its direction and goes back to the same medium. The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection of sound.
4
Q
Propagation of sound
A
The transmission of sound waves through different mediums such as air and water can affect the speed and direction of the waves.
5
Q
Speed
A
The distance travelled per unit of time by a sound wave as it propagates through an elastic medium
