Normal Start
A
- Key in, switch to both.
- Mixture full rich
- Open 1/4 inch
- Prime
- Battery on
- Clear?
- Start engine
- Carb heat on
- Lean mixture one inch
- Carb heat off
- Oil pressure
- Alternator on, check low voltage off, indicator positive charge

Pre-Taxi
A
- Avionics master on
- Ensure all is stowed, headset on floor, enter ATIS AWOS/ASOS on speaker
- Repeat phonetic ATIS three times
- Confirm Kollsman window barometric pressure
- Note temp and dew point spread, if less than five what time of day

ELTs and Guard
A
- Tune Comm 2 to ELT
- Squelch off to see if ELT sweep is heard
- Set to “receive only”

First Radio Communication
A
- Ensure ground and tower is dialed in
- Squelch off to check volume
- Think about what is going to be said and practice out loud
- Call in
- Repeat back exactly what is said

Lighting
A
- Turn beacon on before engine start
- NAV light turned on after start
- Strobe and anti collision only before takeoff

Taxi
A
- Add power, enrichen mixture if over 1000 RPM
- Hold yoke back
- Touch breaks
- S-turn to confirm DG, TC, ball work
- park 45 degrees to runway

Pre-takeoff
A
- Set parking break
- Switch to tower, squelch off
- Read the book, check radio, check panel light, check fuel etc.
- Check flap operation
- Check controls are free and clear
- Check ailerons, rudder etc.

Run-Up
A
- Close windows and look behind you
- Mixture full rich
- 1700 RPM
- Check magnetos
- Carb heat on/off
- Check engine gauges
- Fuel levels
- Amp charging, pressure gauge green
- Reduce power, lean mixture
- Put on headset, turn off speaker
- Check frequency again
