Basic Principles Flashcards
Pascal’s Law
Pressure applied to a confined liquid is transmitted undiminished in all directions, and acts with equal force on all equal areas, and at right angles to those areas.
Pros and Cons of hyrdraulics
High power to weight ratio
Poor transmission over long distances
Dangerous bc high pressure
What creates Pressure?
Resistance to flow
Series vs Parallel flow
Series: Pressure adds up
Parallel: Flow takes path of least resistance
What are the components which create pressure?
Prime Mover
Pump
Actuator
Cavitation
When the pressure in the fluid decreases below the vapour pressure, it vapourizes into gas bubbes which then collapse. The collapse can damage components.
Aeration
Gas bubbles introduced into the system due to a leak. Similar issues as cavitations
