Basic Neuroanatomy Flashcards
Afferent Fibers
Convey sensation from the skin, muscles tendons and viscera back to the central nervous system. Sensory Fibers
Efferent Fibers
Transmit signals from the central nervous system to the muscles and viscera. Motor fibers
Synapse
Space or cleft between nerve endings and nerve cells.
Peripheral Nerve
Consists of may axons of different sizes and functions some of which are coated with myelin
Anterior Horn cell
Location in the spinal cord of the efferent fibers. One cell, one axon
Plexus
Complicated crossing of nerves from different root deprivation in both the shoulder and hip area
Nerve Endings
where the nerve connects to fibers
Muscle Spindles
Lies within the fibers of the muscles connected to connective tissue on one end and muscle on the other
Neruomuscular Junction
The somatic efferent fibers synapse with muscle fiber at this space
