Basic Math Vocubulary Flashcards
mathematic words
Mathematics
the science of nuumbers, shapes and space using reason and usually a special system of symbols and rules for organizing them
Algebra
part of maths in which signs and letters represent numbers
Geometry
the study of angles and shapes formed by the relationship of lines, surfaces and solid objects in space
Trigonometry
Subset of geometry: Relations between the sides and angles of triangles
Arithmetic
The science of numbers involving adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
Four arithmetical operations
- addition (to add numbers)
- subtraction ( remove a number from another (to subtract))
- division (to divide)
- multiplication (to multiply)
Calculus
a specialized area of advanced math in which continually changing values are studied ( differential and integral calculus)
to calculate
to judge ( the num. of smth.) by using the info you already have and adding/subtracting/multiplying and dividing numbers
to count
to say the names of numbers one after another
to count down
count backwards to zero
countable or uncountable
of an amount too great to be counted
odd numbers
(not exactly divisible by two)
even numbers
exactly divisible by two
prime numbers
a whole number greater than 1 which is exactly divisible by itself and one but no other number
equation
a statement in maths showing that two quantities are equal
