what is cardiorespiratory arrest?
sudden interruption of cardiac output
what is the main sign of cardiac arrest?
absence of normal breathing in non-responsive individual
what are possible causes of cardio-respiratory arrest?
(4 Hs/4 Ts)
- hypoxia
- hypothermia
- hypovolemia
- hyperkalaemia
- tamponade
- tension pneumothorax
- toxins
- thromboembolism
how can these causes be reversed?
- give oxygen
- rewarming
- IV line
- sodium bicarbonate/calcium chloride
- thoracatomy
- needle decompression
- reversing agent of toxin
- embolecotomy
what is the chain of survival?
access

what acronym is used ?

What do you do if no reponse?
turn onto back
how long do you check breathing for?
10 seconds
how do you undergo compressions?
30:2 - depth of 5-6cm - middle/lower half of sternum
when do you continue CPR til?
- get too tired
- ambulance arrives
- breathing normally
what is CPR algorithm for children?
check for response, shourt, airway if abnormal breathinig 5 rescue breaths then compressions in ratio 15:2
what is an AED?
automated external defibrillator
what is choking?
airway obstructed by foreign body
what is the difference between severe and mild?
mild: respond/ cough
severe: no response/ cannot cough or speak / unconscious
other signs of choking
- grasping of throat
- pale grey/blue skin
- anxious/distressed
