Regulations or principles governing procedure or controlling conduct
What is and isn’t allowed
Difference between law and rules
Law: obeyed by all citizens of society
Rules: obeyed by specific individuals or groups
Law: made by a law- making body
Rules: maw by individuals or groups
Laws: enforced through courts
Rules: enforced by leaders of a group
Laws: consequences of a breach result in a prescribed penalty imposed by the courts
Rules: consequences of a breach result at the discretion of the leader of a group
Customs
Collective habits or traditions that have developed in society over a long period of time
Procedural fairness
There must be fairness in the processes that resolve disputes
Natural justice
Everyone should be treated fairly in a legal system
Right to be heard+ right to fair hearing
Right to have a decision made by an unbiased decision maker
Law
Set of rules imposed on all members of a community which are officially recognised, binding and enforceable by persons or organisations

- Must be known= discoverable
- Must be applied to all people equally = acceptable
- The rights of the citizens are enforceable in the courts= enforceable
