Basic Facts Flashcards
Name the Quick Start up Time Energy Sources
- Hydroelectric
* Fossil Fuel (gas)
Name the Non-Renewable Energy Sources
- Fossil Fuels
* Nuclear
Name the Carbon Neutral Energy Source
• Biomass
Name the Energy Source which has High Decommissioning Costs
• Nuclear
What are the Reliable Energy Sources?
- Fossil Fuels
- Nuclear
- Geothermal
- Hydrelectric
What is Carbon Capture Used for?
• CCS is used to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere and to reduce the strength of the greenhouse effect
What do CCS do?
- They collect CO2 from power stations before it is released into the atmosphere
- This can then be pumped into empty gas and oil fields ( E.G in North Sea) - it can be safely stored without adding to the GH effect
Who are CCS?
CCS is a new technology that’s developing quickly. New ways of storing CO2 are being explored, including storing CO2 dissolved in seawater at the bottom of the ocean and capturing CO2 with algae, which can then be used to produce oil as a biofuel.
