Basic EQ Concepts Flashcards
What is EQ (Equalization)?
EQ is the process of adjusting the balance of different frequency components of an audio signal to shape the sound.
What does an EQ filter do?
An EQ filter boosts or cuts specific frequency ranges to alter the tonal balance of an audio signal.
What is a Low Cut (High Pass) Filter?
A Low Cut (High Pass) filter removes low frequencies below a certain threshold, commonly used to reduce unwanted rumble or muddiness.
What is a High Cut (Low Pass) Filter?
A High Cut (Low Pass) filter removes high frequencies above a certain threshold, often used to tame harshness or reduce high-end noise.
What is a Band-Pass Filter?
A Band-Pass filter allows only a specific range of frequencies to pass through, cutting both low and high frequencies.
What is Q (Quality Factor) in EQ?
Q refers to the width of the frequency band being affected. A high Q affects a narrow band of frequencies, while a low Q affects a wider band.
