Basic Electricity Flashcards
A safety device used in electrical circuits for the protection of the circuit and components
Fuse
A material with several electrons in the outer orbit of the atom making them poor conductor of electricity or good insulator
Insulator
A coil of wire to designed it to carry an electrical current producing a magnetic field
Solenoid
An atom or component that has a shortage of electrons
Positive
A coil of wire wrap around an iron core that induces a current to another coil of wire wrap around the same iron core
Transformer
An Electric current that reverses its direction at regular intervals
Alternating current
An atom or component that has an excess of electrons
Negative
A path for electrical energy to flow on
Conductor
The alternating current voltage effective value. This is the value measured by most voltmeters. The RMS voltage is 0.707 times the peak voltage
(RMS). Root mean square
A force causing a magnetic field to attract ferrous metals or where like poles of a magnet repel and unlike poles attract each other
Magnetism
The potential electrical difference for electron flow from one line to another in an electrical circuit
Voltage
The smallest portion of an atom that carries a negative charge and orbits around the nucleus of an atom
Electron
A meter used to measure current flow in an electrical circuit
Ammeter
The part of an atom having a positive charge
Proton
A unit of measurement of electrical resistance to current flow
OHM
