Breech
The outside rear face of the barrel which meets the face of the bolt or breechblock
Breechblock
A component that seals the breech & blocks gases from the fired cartridge.
Disconnector
A device incorporated into the action of a weapon which prevents the firing of more than 1 shot for 1 pull of the trigger OR which prevents the weapon from being fired until the action is fully closed
How does the military measure cartridge cases?
Bullet Diameter x Cartridge Case length in millimeters
How do civilians measure caliber?
Distance across the bore, measured land to land, expressed in hundredths of an inch
Headspace
The distance from the breechblock to that part of the chamber which stops the forward movement of the cartridge case
Sear
A component retained under spring tension that releases, by means of a trigger, either a firing pin, hammer, or bolt
Trigger Bar
A connecting bar operating between the trigger and sear. An extension of the trigger
Chamber Pressure
The pressure generated in the chamber when the cartridge is fired
Residual Pressure
The remaining pressure in the chamber after the bullet has left the muzzle
Trigger
A finger actuated lever used to activate the firing mechanism firing the weapon
