Bartenieff Flashcards
What were bartenieffs occupations?
Physical therapist. Movement analyst
Etc
What was her basis behind the fundamentals?
Recognized body and mind forms patterns as it develops (connectivity)
What is ontogenesis and phylogenesis?
Onto: develop from baby to adult
Phyllo: develop from amoeba to primate
Name two fundamental principles
The developmental progression is not linear it occurs in overlapping waves AND initial with upper proceeds initiation with lower body in all patterns at all levels
Name 3 uses of fundamentals
- aid to learn/remember movement
- aid to physically execute movement
- alternative to traditional dance warmup
What does the whole body symbol look like
And 8 inside a circle
What are the 7 body connectivities?
Breath, navel radiation, mouthing, spinal, homologous, homolateral, and contra lateral
What is the symbol and animal for breath connectivity
Big 8 in circle over lapping sides of the circle, and an amoeba
What is the symbol and animal for navel radiation connectivity
X and vertical line through an 8 and a dot in the middle, starfish
What is the mouthing symbol and animal?
A carrot symbol on top of an 8, bird or duck
What is the spinal connectivity symbol and animal?
A l line coming out from the top and bottom of an 8, snake, worm, fish
What is the homologous connectivity symbol and animal?
Line cutting an 8 in half horizontally, frog or rabbit
What is the symbol and animal for homolateral connectivity
Line cutting 8 in half vertically, reptile
Contralateral connectivity symbol and animal?
X through 8, “higher” mammals
What are the sounds and purpose of breath prep?
Movement rides in the flow of the breath, Ooo pelvis Lower spine Oh lumbar spine navel Ahh thorax spine lower limbs Ayy thorax cervical/ sternum iiiii base of skull throat
What are the basic 6 fundamentals
Thigh lift Pelvic forward shift Pelvic lateral shift Body half Diagonal knee reach Arm circles + diagonal sit up
What is the purpose of thigh lift?
To flex without superficial muscles- gripping
What is the purpose of forward shift
Connection between heels and pelvis, mobilize transfers of weight
What is the purpose of pelvic lateral shift?
Mobilize lateral transfers of weight without any twisting or lifting of the hip
Body half purpose?
Awareness of vertical midline
Diagonal knee reach purpose
Awareness of Lower body twisting against upper body
Arms circles and diagonal sit ups
Awareness and integration is head eyes with arm movement
