Explain the 1st step of baptism
- Welcome - by priest - parents/godparents/baby/ceremony
- A godparent encourages your spiritual growth and supports you. They are an example for you chosen by the parents
- Sign of the cross on baby’s head to symbolise that they belong to God and the church

- Bible readings & sermon
- Passages are read from the bible by the priest and participants to symbolise the word of God

Explain step 3 in baptism
- Baby is anointed with the Oil of Catechumens to give the strength on difficult times
Explain step 4 of baptism
- Baptismal promises
- Water in baptismal font is blessed
- Parents and godparents express their faith and make promises on behalf of the baby to show their belief

- Holy water is poured on the baby’s head 3 times — this signifies they have entered new life in Jesus and are part of the Catholic community
